Calibration weights set: calibrate your own scale
Most digital precision scales have a calibration function that lets you check whether the scale is still weighing accurately. This set contains 5 weights totalling 105 grams, namely 1x 50 grams, 2x 20 grams, 1x 10 grams and 1x 5 grams, plus a pair of tweezers so you can place the weights without touching them with your fingers. Fingerprints and skin oils can throw off the weight just enough to disturb the calibration, especially on scales accurate to 0.01 grams. A set of dedicated weights is therefore more accurate and more hygienic than improvising with coins or other objects.
Use and maintenance
Check your own scale's manual first: not every model uses the same calibration value or procedure, and some scales ask for a single specific weight rather than a combination. Put the scale into calibration mode, place the requested weight or the right combination in the centre of the platform using the tweezers, and wait for the display to confirm the calibration. Store the weights dry and dust-free in the included packaging, and always handle them with the tweezers, never bare fingers, to avoid dirt, grease and moisture. Check the weights occasionally for dust or condensation before use.
