Which scale do you need?
Not every scale is suitable for every purpose. The most important criterion is accuracy, expressed as the smallest unit the scale can measure. A scale accurate to 0.1 gram is fine for larger amounts of herbal blends or shisha tobacco, but for kratom, microdoses or concentrated extracts you need a scale that weighs accurately to 0.01 gram. That difference of one decimal place sounds small, but with active substances it makes a real difference in practice.
Pocket scales are compact, light and usually run on batteries. They fit in a trouser pocket, which makes them handy on the go or wherever you have little space. Tabletop models are slightly larger and often have a bigger weighing platform, which is convenient if you regularly weigh larger amounts. Both types have a tare function that lets you zero out the packaging or weighing tray for an accurate measurement.
For weighing kratom, the rule of thumb is to use a scale accurate to 0.01 gram, especially at low doses. A standard dose of kratom is between 2 and 6 grams, depending on the type and the purpose, but if you work with extracts or concentrated forms you need a more accurate instrument. The same goes for microdosing with truffles, where a deviation of half a gram already has a noticeable effect on the intensity of the experience.
The best way to look after a scale is to clean the weighing platform after use and to use the scale on a level surface. Vibrations and air currents can affect the measurement, which is noticeable with very small amounts. Most scales in our range come with a protective storage case and weighing trays, so you can get started straight away.
Besides scales, our grinders category has good equipment for grinding herbs for use with a vaporizer or for preparing herbal blends. For storing and protecting your products, have a look at the stash products section.
Frequently asked questions about scales
What is the difference between 0.1 g and 0.01 g accuracy?
A scale accurate to 0.1 gram measures in steps of a tenth of a gram. At 0.01 gram it measures in hundredths of a gram. For general herb use 0.1 gram is enough, but for microdoses, kratom extracts or concentrated substances 0.01 gram is the right choice.
How do I make sure the measurement is accurate?
Always use the scale on a level, stable surface without vibrations or draughts. After switching it on, let the scale stabilise for a moment before you start weighing. Use the tare function to zero out the packaging or weighing tray.
Do pocket scales run on batteries?
Yes, almost all compact pocket scales in our range run on AAA or CR2032 batteries. Most come with batteries included. Tabletop models sometimes have a USB connection or an adapter.
What is the maximum a pocket scale can weigh?
That varies by model. Most pocket scales in our range have a maximum capacity of 100 to 500 grams. For larger amounts, a tabletop model with a higher maximum capacity is more suitable. Check the product specifications for the exact values.
