Magic truffles (also known as sclerotia or magic truffles) are legal psychedelics that contain psilocybin, the same active ingredient found in magic mushrooms. The truffles in our selection are stored refrigerated and come with an expiration date. Each variety has its own potency level, ranging from mild to intense. The effects depend on the dosage, the variety, your mood, and the environment. Make sure you’re in a quiet setting and have a sober person nearby, especially if it’s your first time. Only suitable for people 18 years of age and older.

Magic truffles, also called philosopher's stones or sclerotia, are one of the most remarkable forms of psychedelics in the world. These sclerotia are technically not mushrooms, but they are part of the same organism. If you are wondering what the difference is between truffles and magic mushrooms, you're not alone. Although both contain the psychedelic substance psilocybin, they are two different products. The truffle grows underground, while mushrooms grow above ground. Sclerotia are compact masses of hardened mycelium that the fungus forms underground as an energy reserve. So they are not mushrooms themselves, but a by-product of the same organism.
Some fungi form sclerotia underground to store nutrients and to protect themselves against cold, drought and heat. They contain psilocybin, which produces a colourful and philosophical state of mind that lasts around 4 to 6 hours. Because magic truffles are officially a by-product of mushrooms and do not have the fruiting bodies covered by the Dutch Opium Act, magic truffles may be sold in the Netherlands, while magic mushrooms may not. At Dutch-Smart you can buy various types of magic truffles easily, safely and legally. Would you rather grow them yourself? Then order one of our truffle grow kits.
To understand the effects of magic truffles, it helps to know that psilocybin is converted in the body into psilocin, the substance that is actually active in the brain. Psilocin acts on the serotonin receptors and causes effects comparable to those of LSA, DMT and mescaline: visual hallucinations, intense emotions and other sensory experiences. It is also possible to take truffles without these powerful effects. That is done by microdosing: a dose so small that you don't hallucinate, but do experience subtle effects on focus, mood and creativity.
You start to feel the effect half an hour to 45 minutes after taking the truffles. Depending on the type, the trip lasts between three and six hours. A trip is different for everyone and is experienced differently every time. Many users experience colour and feeling more intensely, may feel anxious or paranoid, and experience music and images as more vivid. In general users feel content, and fits of laughter are common.
Not every type of magic truffle is equally potent. The strength is determined by the concentration of psilocybin and psilocin per gram. In the Dutch-Smart range you'll find types at different strength levels. Mexicana and Pajaritos are the mildest types and the most suitable for a first experience. Atlantis and Tampanensis are in the middle range, with more intense visual effects and a longer duration. Hollandia, Utopia and High Hawaiians are among the strongest types in the range and are intended for experienced users. Space Invaders and Double Vision are special varieties with their own effect profile. If you want to order a larger quantity, there is also a Bulk truffles 250 grams option. Want to grow the truffles yourself for maximum freshness? Take a look at the truffle grow kits.
Keep the truffles refrigerated until the best-before date. Don't consume them once this date has passed. For the best effect, eat the truffles on an empty stomach and chew them well. If your stomach isn't empty, the effects are weaker and it can take longer before you notice anything. A standard dose is between 10 and 15 grams of fresh truffles. If it is your first time, start with 7 to 10 grams. Your body quickly builds up a tolerance to the active substances, so if you want to take truffles again you should wait at least three days.
Keep the following in mind before you use magic truffles:
Sclerotia of Psilocybe tampanensis, also known as philosopher's stones or magic truffles, are a type of psychedelic organism that has received a lot of attention in recent years, both recreationally and in scientific research. The species was first discovered in 1977 by Steven Pollock in the grasslands of Florida. The sclerotia are small, brown and round, with a rubbery texture and a distinctly earthy, nutty taste. Their chemical composition includes psilocybin, psilocin and baeocystin, the main psychoactive substances responsible for the psychedelic effects. These compounds are structurally similar to serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood, appetite and sleep. Research suggests that psilocybin has therapeutic potential, including in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders, although the long-term effects have not yet been fully researched.

Both contain psilocybin and psilocin, but botanically they are different. Magic mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of a fungus that grow above ground. Truffles are sclerotia, compact masses of hardened mycelium that grow underground as an energy reserve. Magic mushrooms fall under the Dutch Opium Act and are banned in the Netherlands. Truffles do not, so they can be sold legally.
The strength is comparable, but varies by type and dose. Truffles generally have a slightly lower concentration of psilocybin per gram than dried magic mushrooms, but fresh truffles and fresh mushrooms are similar in potency. Strong types such as High Hawaiians and Hollandia can give an experience as intense as an average magic mushroom strain.
On average three to six hours, depending on the type, the dose and individual sensitivity. The first effects are noticeable after half an hour to 45 minutes. The peak is usually between 1.5 and 3 hours after taking them. After that the effects gradually wear off.
