Mexican Tarragon, TPA alkaloid extract of Tagetes lucida
Tagetes lucida, known in Mexico as yauhtli and in English as Mexican tarragon, is a fragrant perennial from the daisy family (Asteraceae), native to Mexico and Central America. The Aztecs burned the herb as incense and, according to tradition, are said to have also used it in a ritual powder; the plant was also associated with the rain god Tlaloc. Better documented is its use as a household tea: in Mexico, yauhtli has traditionally been brewed into an aniseed-flavoured tea drunk to calm the stomach and relax the nerves.
This extract is produced with the TPA method (Total Purified Alkaloids): the active plant compounds are isolated from the herb through several extraction and purification steps and then dissolved in an ethanol and water base. The result is a clear liquid extract without plant residue, wax or chlorophyll, more concentrated than an ordinary yauhtli tea.
Dosage
Start with 5 to 10 drops (about 0.25-0.5 ml) per use and assess your response before increasing the dose.
Use
The extract can be taken sublingually (drops under the tongue) or diluted in a small amount of water or tea; the taste is sharp due to the ethanol content, so diluting makes it more pleasant. Do not use this product during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you are under 18. Do not combine it with larger amounts of alcohol.
Storage
Store the extract cool, dark and upright with the cap closed, out of reach of children. Close the cap tightly after use to prevent the ethanol from evaporating. At Dutch-Smart you will also find other TPA alkaloid extracts such as Damiana, Happy Skullcap and Holy Pink Lotus.
