Brass cleaning

Clean brass is the starting point of good reloading. Dirt and residue wear your dies, hide cracks and affect your sizing. At Hop.nl you will find tumblers, ultrasonic cleaners, the L.E.M. electromagnetic cleaner, brass dryers and cleaning media from Frankford Arsenal, Shooting Technology, Hornady, Bore Tech and Lyman.

Dry or wet tumbling

Tumbling is the most common method. Cases go into a rotating drum together with cleaning media, and the friction polishes them clean. There are two variants. Dry tumbling with walnut granulate or corncob media is fast and simple. Your cases come out shiny on the outside. But primer pockets and flash holes remain largely untouched.

Wet tumbling with stainless steel pins and a splash of cleaning solution goes much further. The steel pins work their way into primer pockets, through flash holes, everywhere. The result is brass that looks new inside and out. Most precision reloaders swear by wet tumbling.

We carry the Platinum Series tumbler from Frankford Arsenal as our top model, the Lite version as an entry point, and the Quick-N-EZ as a budget option. The Platinum Series comes with electronic controls and a larger capacity. We stock the matching stainless steel media, walnut media and cleaning solution as well.

L.E.M. electromagnetic cleaner

The L.E.M. Plus from Shooting Technology uses micro needles driven by an electromagnetic field. The result sits somewhere between dry and wet tumbling, but without the water and without the hassle of separating steel pins afterwards. Fast, effective, compact. An interesting alternative for those who do not want to deal with water.

Ultrasonic cleaning

Ultrasonic cleaners use high frequency sound waves to shake dirt loose. Reaches places a tumbler cannot. The Hornady Ultra Sonic Cleaner is our model in this category. Use it with the Bore Tech Case Cleaner for best results. Ultrasonic is especially popular with reloaders who also want to clean smaller parts and tools.

Drying after cleaning

After wet tumbling or ultrasonic cleaning your cases need to be dried. Moisture in your cases is the last thing you want, especially before weighing powder into them. The Frankford Arsenal brass dryer blows warm air through your cases. Fast and thorough. The Sirocco from Shooting Technology is more compact and fits better on a smaller bench. For quickly spinning off water before drying there is the Frankford centrifuge.

Accessories

After tumbling you need to separate your cases from your media. That is what the Frankford media separator sieve is for. And if you wet tumble with stainless steel pins you need a magnet to fish those pins back out. We also carry cleaning media from Lyman in corncob and tufnut variants.

Where to start

For most reloaders a wet tumbler with stainless steel pins is the best choice. Your cases get clean inside and out, primer pockets included. Combine that with a brass dryer and you have a complete cleaning line. Do not want the hassle of water and pins? Have a look at the L.E.M. Not sure what fits your situation?
