Imperial application media - Redding

Sizing with bushing dies or an expanding mandrel puts real friction on the case neck. The toughest moment is the back stroke, when the expander pulls back through the neck. Without lubrication you risk stuck cases, uneven neck tension and accelerated wear on your dies. Dry neck lube has always been the right answer to this problem. The issue was that applying it used to be slow and messy.

Redding solved that with a small tub of ceramic spheres. The spheres come pre-charged with Imperial Dry Neck Lube, so a single dip lays down a thin, even layer of dry lubricant on both the inside and outside of the case neck.

How to use it

Open the tub and dip the neck of your case into the spheres. A brief motion with a light twist is all it takes. Pull the case out and you can size right away.

One useful tip from experience: do not dip too deep. If you go past the shoulder, ceramic spheres can stick to the body of the case if you have used wet lube elsewhere. If those spheres end up in your sizing die they will dent the brass. Keep it shallow, neck only, and you are fine.

When to recharge

After 400 to 500 cases you will notice the spheres giving off less lubricant. At that point, add a few drops of Imperial Dry Neck Lube, shake the tub, and the spheres are recharged for the next session. The ceramic spheres themselves last more or less forever.

Who this is for

Anyone working with bushing dies or mandrels benefits from dry neck lube. For benchrest and F-Class shooters chasing identical neck tension across a batch it is close to essential. But hunters and PRS shooters who want to treat their brass properly without the mess of wet lube will appreciate it just as much.

The Imperial application media works best alongside a quality expanding mandrel like the K&M expander mandrel set. Questions about the right lubricant for your setup? Get in touch via our contact page.
